CHCANYS to Sit on Governor’s Health Care Reform Advisory Committee As a member of the Governor’s Health Care Reform Advisory Committee, CHCANYS and the 36 other committee members representing health care provider groups, consumers, businesses, organized labor, advocates, local governments, health plans and insurers, and health policy experts will help provide guidance to the Governor’s Health Care Reform Cabinet on key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Reconciliation Act. New York’s network of health centers will play an important role in bringing health care reform to fruition for uninsured and underinsured patients statewide. Now, as part of the Governor’s Advisory Committee, CHCANYS will be a highly visible representative of community health centers as important decisions are made in state government about the implementation of reform.
Joint Meaningful Use-Medical Home Project to Help 100,000 Underserved New Yorkers at City-based FQHCsCHCANYS and the Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) and have launched the "Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) / Meaningful Use of Health Information Technology (HIT) LearningCollaborative." This unique initiative will help New York City’s community health centers leverage two historic state and federal financial incentives, while simultaneously transforming the delivery of primary care. The initiative is being supported with $525,000 in total grant funding from The Altman Foundation, The New York Community Trust, and the RCHN Community Health Foundation. Click here to read more.

HHS Launches Spanish Version of Healthcare.gov The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has launched the Spanish version of its healthcare.gov website. This website will allow Spanish-speaking Americans to get information about the Affordable Care Act, insurance coverage options, federally qualified health centers, and much more so that they can make better choices about their healthcare in the age of healthcare reform. It is important to note that this website will not collect or store any information nor is it selling anything. Please share this website with Spanish-speaking patients in your centers.
NACHC Offers "Coding Health Centers Can Use" Webinar Series NACHC and Brown Consulting are offering a "Coding Health Centers Can Use" webinar series. This three-webinar series is designed to assist health centers in the areas of billing and collections. Each session will inform health centers of the basic components of coding and how improving current billing practices and systems can translate into increased revenues. Participate in this series for a complete overview of the billing and reimbursement issues that impact coders, billers and providers in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). News from Community Health Corps CHCANYS Community HealthCorps Update
Our new CHCANYS HealthCorps class of 2010-2011 year officially began last week Sunday, September 5th 2010.
We conducted a 6 day Pre-Service Orientation training for our HealthCorps Members. Members traveled to Camp Ramapo in Rhinebeck, NY for a three day team building and personal development training, and completed the remainder of the week training at the CHCANYS New York City office.
Members also participated in a CHCANYS HealthCorps Scavenger hunt. CHCANYS HealthCorps collaborated with South Bronx Center for Children & Families, Harlem Children’s Health Project, Urban Health Plan, and Callen-Lorde to formulate and develop this public health program. Members traveled to these four community health center sites and engaged in educational activities that helped to inform them about important public health issues. They were also able to learn about the history and development of these health centers, the populations they serve, and the services they provide. We would like to thank these health centers for their participation and support in the success of this event.
