The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), part of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, enhances New York City’s emergency preparedness by ensuring that a trained group of volunteer health professionals is ready to respond to public health emergencies.
MRC members help by:
Helping to distribute antibiotics or vaccine during an emergency requiring mass prophylaxis of a large number of New Yorkers.
Assisting the City with mass sheltering operations, such as during a coastal storm,
Assisting with medical surge capacity, for example during a pandemic influenza outbreak.
MRC volunteers play a critical role in emergency response by being part of a pre-identified, pre-credentialed, and pre-trained group of potential responders. Any licensed or certified health professional or health professional student who lives or works in New York City can join. MRC provides liability coverage, and offers trainings and exercises for its members.

CHCANYS will be handling requests for MRC volunteers by New York City health centers.
If your health center is located outside of New York City, your staff can still volunteer with the MRC, and you can still request volunteers during an emergency. For more information, you need to get in touch with your county's MRC, which can be done here.
