UDS Tips – February 15, 2011 Submission Deadline The 2010 Uniform Data System (UDS) reports are due by February 15, 2011. Upon successful submission, you will have an opportunity to work with a UDS reviewer to finalize and submit your final report by March 31, 2011. No changes will be permitted to the UDS report after March 31, 2011.
The following are some helpful tips regarding common issues related to New York State health centers:
Where do we report information on Medicaid, SCHIP, etc? Health centers should note the following for reporting patients related to insurance:
Table 4:
Family Health Plus - Medicaid line 8a - Table 9D lines 1-3
Child Health Plus (CHIP) or Other public - line 10b - Table 9D: lines 7, 8a and 8b
Valumed - line 10a - Table 9D: lines 7, 8a and 8b
Healthy NY line 10a - Table 9D: lines 7, 8a and 8b
NY Public Goods Pool - uninsured line 7 (report on Table 9E line 6a - although charges go on Table 9D line 13 column A)
PCAP = Medicaid
Changes to Table 9E - Other Revenue A new row (1k) has been added to Table 9E in the BPHC Grants section to capture draw down amounts for the recently awarded Affordable Care Act (ACA) Capital Development grants (C8A activity code). This data field will be activated on or around 1/13/2011. Only recipients of Capital Development grants should report on this line.
In addition to the above changes, the 2011 UDS Clinical measures announced in PAL 2010-12 have been approved.
UDS Mapper: Please review your health center information as presented in the UDS Mapper and report any changes in information or corrections to the Bureau.

UPCOMING CQI OPPORTUNITIES Open Casting Call for Nurses The Nurse Training in Immunization Project (NTIP) at the Center for Public Health Continuing Education, UAlbany School of Public Health needs nurses who may want to star in their upcoming programs.
The first program will be a webcast on Teens, Parents and Vaccines for April. They are looking for a nurse who is passionate about working with teens and has particular skills communicating with teens and parents regarding vaccines. This would be an interview, probably take about an hour and would need to be done within the next few months. They are open to substituting a pediatrician.
The second is for a nurse to appear on a training video discussing setting up a successful staff immunization project. They are looking for someone who can describe how it was done at his or her facility. The segment will be about 15 minutes and will take about an hour to film. This project is expected to conclude by the end of February. They are willing to substitute an administrator or MD.
The filming can take place at UAlbany or at a location of your convenience. For more information or to express interest, please contact Linda Laudato at 518-402-2779 or llaudato@uamail.albany.edu.

Are you looking for a Dentist or a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Women’s Health? Underneath the auspices of HRSA, the Bureau of Clinician Recruitment & Service (BCRS) was established in 1970 to address health disparities. It also helps underserved communities and facilities experiencing critical shortages of health care providers by recruiting and retaining clinicians through scholarship and educational loan repayment opportunities in exchange for service. HRSA is legislatively mandated to develop shortage designation criteria and use them to decide whether or not a geographic area, population group or facility is in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) or a Medically Underserved Area (MUA) or Population (MUP).
The BCRS is able to assist these underserved communities through the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). Over 30,000 clinicians have served since 1972. In 2008, 3,500 clinicians cared for 4 million patients and about half of those were in CHCs. Statistics show that half of the clinicians who serve in the NHSC go on to care about underserved people and choose to work where they are needed most.
The NHSC clinician is committed to serve one year for each year of support (usually 2-6 years) at an approved site in a high-need HPSA. These clinicians are licensed and have served a primary care residency in various specialties (family medicine, general pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, general or pediatric dentistry).
There are four NHSC clinicians that need immediate re-placement:
Dentist – NYC Area
Nurse Practitioner: Women’s Health – NYC Area
Dentist – Upstate
Pediatric Dentist – NYC Area (HPSA score must be > 17)
If you have any interest in employing one of these dedicated clinicians, please contact Dr. Kameron Wells (VP, Clinical Quality Initiatives) at 212-710-3814 or kwells@chcanys.org to discuss further.
In addition, if you would like to learn more about the BCRS click here, and for the NHSC click here.

Are All Your Clinicians Enrolled in PECOS? Because the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has received many questions from physicians employed by FQHC’s and rural health clinics as to whether they are required to enroll in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS), CMS has developed specific enrollment guidance for FQHC and RHC physicians. The bottom line is that your clinicians do need to be enrolled in the PECOS system, but the enrollment process has been streamlined for them. Details are available in the CMS document, Medicare Enrollment Guidance for Physicians that Infrequently Receive Reimbursement from the Medicare Program.
