CHCANYS President & CEO Elizabeth Swain to Co-Chair New MRT Work Group
The New York State Department of Health has announced the formation of the Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) Social Determinants of Health Work Group, convened by Medicaid Director Jason Helgerson to provide guidance on how best to address the social determinants of health to promote health, improve wellbeing and decrease/eliminate disparities. CHCANYS President and CEO Elizabeth Swain has been selected to serve as Community Co-Chair. Kristin Proud, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, will serve as Governmental Co-Chair. Many members of this new Work Group served on the MRT Health Disparities Work Group convened in 2011, also co-chaired by Elizabeth.

An initial charge to the new work group is to identify potential strategies, programs, and/or policies related to employment that could decrease disparities in health access, utilization, and outcomes.

Agency Feedback for DSRIP Emerging PPS Networks Posted
A number of State agencies have provided feedback on the Letters of Intent submitted by PPS networks identified as "emerging." Click here to read their comments.  

DSRIP Community Needs Assessment Guidance Released 
The Department of Health has released guidance on the Community Needs Assessment, critical component of the DSRIP program. All PPSs are required to conduct a Community Needs Assessment and use the information as the basis for selecting DSRIP projects and to measure baseline metrics for each project domain. read more >>

Senate Appropriations Subcommittee Approves Funding Increase for Health Centers
Health centers and their patients scored a big victory on June 10th when the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) approved $5.1 billion in total program funding for the Health Centers program in FY2015. read more >> 

Webcast: New Medicare PPS for Federally Qualified Health Centers - Operational Requirements
Date: Wednesday, June 25; Time: 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. As required by Section 10501 of the Affordable Care Act, FQHCs will transition to a Medicare Prospective Payment System (PPS) beginning on October 1, 2014. This call will cover information on operational requirements of the new payment system, including a review of the PPS methodology, billing and claims processing, and cost reporting. read more >>

Application Deadline for Health Center Expansion Grant is July 1
On June 3, 2014, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the availability of up to $300 million in Affordable Care Act (ACA) funding to help community health centers expand service hours, hire more medical providers, and add oral health, behavioral health, pharmacy, and vision services. The application deadline is July 1, 2014read more >>
