CHCANYS AmeriCorps members placed through our programs are a valuable auxiliary to the health service network. Members reach out to medically underserved communities to provide much-needed services to patients now not being served, as well as ensure follow up on treatment plans and promote preventive health practices among new and existing patients.
CHCANYS members include individuals receiving public assistance, unemployed persons, college graduates, and those who have not yet completed college but would like to continue their education. Health and social service professionals are sought as well. All members have a strong desire to give a year of service to health center patients and communities.
CHCANYS AmeriCorps members, many of whom come from the communities served by the participating health centers, also benefit from the program. By providing outreach and support services for low-income families served by community, migrant, and homeless health centers, members are exposed to a range of health career roles dedicated to improving the health status of hard-to-reach populations.
Members perform much needed outreach, support services, follow-up, and other functions designed to improve access to preventive and primary health care and improve the health of all family members.
