The care for Americans with a psychiatric illness is currently undergoing a crisis that affects not only those people in need of care, but the economics and effectiveness of the entire health care system. Our failure to effectively identify and treat mental illness is showing up in the violent actions of troubled adolescents, the huge economic cost in lost earnings estimated at $193 billion, the cost of maintaining large prison populations. Many more adults and children with a mental disorder are showing up in the offices of primary care doctors, health clinics and health centers, and many more are coming as a result of the expansions of coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

How to effectively integrate mental health with health care in order to treat and manage this large and growing population, is the subject of this very special program. A panel of distinguished physicians will discuss the most recent approaches to adapting both our mental health and health systems to the challenges that face us as they affect adults, children and the elderly.  This will be a discussion relevant to clinicians, providers, policy people and those concerned about mental health care.
