The first ever New York State Health Data Code-a-thon will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19 and run through Friday, December 20th at 3:30 p.m. Developers, designers, and data enthusiasts are challenged to turn novel ideas into mobile/web-based tools that will help New Yorkers locate resources to help increase their level of physical activity, improve their food choices and find health interventions in their communities. Code-a-thon participants will generate innovative ideas on how to use open data from Health Data NY, OPEN NY, and other open data sites to help stem the “twin epidemic” of obesity and diabetes. The technology ideas/solutions will be judged and winning projects will receive cash awards.
The event will also feature “Luminary Talks,” which will focus on the importance of open data on the health community; critical ongoing work by health professionals within New York State’s communities; and how health plans, health care providers and local businesses are doing their part to encourage healthy behaviors among New Yorkers.
