The Institute for Family Health Collaborative safety planning is an essential part of providing care for patients determined to be at risk for suicide. This brief clinical intervention helps patients identify and utilize coping strategies, social support activities, and help-seeking behaviors. Safety planning can be used in diverse settings such as behavioral health care, primary care, emergency departments, and crisis hotlines. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to describe the Safety Planning Intervention; discuss ways to increase Safety Plan effectiveness; and list resources for implementing the Safety Planning Intervention.
