New York State Breast and Cervical Cancer Detection and Education Advisory Council's Cervical Cancer Public Hearing

 

The New York State Breast and Cervical Cancer Detection and Education Program Advisory Council and the New York State Department of Health’s Cancer Services Program are developing a comprehensive cervical cancer prevention plan for the State of New York.  In order to gather information to advise the development of this plan, we will be holding a public hearing on Monday, June 4, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 110 at the East Campus of the School of Public Health, University at Albany, One University Place, Rensselaer, NY 12144.  Individuals who are interested in the health of women and cervical cancer are invited to attend the hearing and to present information on the following topics:
 
1. Statistical and qualitative data on the prevalence and incidence of cervical cancer
2. Strategies for raising public awareness on the causes and nature of cervical cancer: risk factors, prevention, early detection, options for testing, treatment and new technologies, and medical care reimbursement
3. Identification of priority new technologies which are effective in preventing and controlling the risk of cervical cancer
4. Examination of the limitations of existing laws, regulations, programs and services related to cervical cancer
5. Strategies to facilitate coordination of and communication among state and local agencies and organizations regarding the involvement in implementing and promoting the cervical cancer prevention plan

This hearing is not the only opportunity for comment.  Interested parties may provide comments related to these topics and areas in a variety of ways:

• Verbal comments may be offered at the public hearing. Verbal comments must not exceed ten minutes and must be accompanied by a written summary of the comments. Please see instructions below regarding how to submit comments. Those interested in testifying MUST call Deborah Bushey at 518-474-1222 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on any business day, by Friday, May 25, 2007 (one week before the scheduled hearing) in order to be included on the meeting agenda.  
• A written summary of comments may be sent electronically to the following e-mail address by Friday,

• A written summary of comments may be sent via U.S. Mail by Friday, May 25, 2007.

• In addition, a written summary of comments may be submitted in lieu of verbal testimony.

Comments and testimony will inform the drafting of the cervical cancer plan and report as required under
Section 2407, 3-g of the Public Health Law.  All submitted written comments will become a part of the public record.

• Attendance:  Individuals who do not wish to provide verbal testimony are also welcome to attend the hearing.  When arriving at the School of Public Health, please park in the designated visitor parking lot.
