Annual Institute for Disaster Mental Health Conference
Location: SUNY New Paltz
The interrelated psychological, social, medical, and emergency management concerns raised in considering the response to Pandemic Disasters, Infectious Disease Outbreaks, and Bioterrorism events will be addressed at the Institute for Disaster Mental Health’s (IDMH)14th annual conference. Specific topics will include:
how the invisible nature of such threats induces widespread anxiety and fear
how to prepare for individuals presenting with somatic stress symptoms who may overburden an already taxed healthcare system.
how to best address the challenges of people exposed to or perceived to be exposed to an infectious disease
The only event of its kind in New York State, the IDMH conference brings together emergency management, health, and mental health personnel to explore ways of addressing the psychological aspects of complex public health emergencies with the goal of reducing responder and community stress and increasing response efficacy.
