Position Description:

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The incumbent will monitor progress, manage the activities of projects, and will act as the liaison between internal and external stakeholders and partners to facilitate collaboration and ensure accountability. The incumbent will function as a subject matter expert and as a professional lead in assigned areas
 
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops evidence based infection prevention policies to address specific issues or concerns related to infection prevention for ambulatory sites across the Health System.

Performs risk assessments to ensure policies and procedures are tailored to the facility and re-assessed on a regular basis taking into consideration the types of services provided by the facility and the patient population that is served.

Develops infection control training programs including health care professional and patient safety.

Monitors and reports ambulatory site associated infections. Collects, analyzes, interprets and disseminates data regarding health-related events for use in public health action to reduce morbidity and mortality and to improve health. Tracks outcome measures and adherence to specific process measures (e.g., hand hygiene, environmental cleaning) as a means to reduce infection transmission.

Ensures practices adhere to local, state, and federal requirements regarding reportable diseases and outbreak reporting.

Performs regular audits and competency evaluations of health care professional adherence to infection prevention practices.

Develops and implements systems for early detection and management of potentially infectious patients at initial points of entry to the facility.

Communicates the needs and plans of Infection Control Program to Ambulatory Gotham Health CNO and System Director of infection Prevention.

Assumes supervisory responsibilities for Infection Control personnel (interviewing, selection, training, performance evaluation and counseling)

Develops competencies to evaluate Infection Control personnel.

Performs related duties, as required.

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Director of Infection Control will conduct surveillance and environment of care activities for identification and prevention of infections and complications related to ambulatory visit.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Instrument Processing as it relates to high level disinfection and sterilization in a variety of ambulatory settings as well as construction related activities for ambulatory facilities. Familiarity with EPIC and NHSN applications for identifying and reporting HAI’s is also preferred.

The Director will educate staff in the identification and prevention of infections. Additionally, will facilitate infection prevention practices with patients and families while collaborating with Occupation Health Services in safe practices for employees relating to exposure work-ups.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:

CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Microbiology, required. Master's Degree, preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
  • Certification in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Microbiology, required. Master's Degree, preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

OR

Technologist/Microbiologist: B.S. required along with certification. Training in infection prevention and basic statistics is preferred. CIC is preferred

 

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

  • Certification in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
  • Current knowledge of clinical infection control including surveillance and prevention; trends; government laws and regulations; and related clinical practice and techniques.

KNOWLEDGEABLE IN:

  • Current knowledge of clinical infection control including surveillance and prevention; trends; government laws and regulations; and related clinical practice and techniques.
