Position Description:

The Family Health Centers at NYU Langone is actively recruiting for a Medical Director of Ambulatory Behavioral Health Services. The Family Health Centers at NYU Langone behavioral health service line offers evidence based individualized treatment services for individuals managing mental health disorders, struggling with chemical dependency problems and/or coping with health issues including HIV/AIDS. Services are provided in a variety of settings including our OMH Licensed Article 31 Sunset Terrace Mental Health Clinic, the Healthy Connections Program (an outpatient mental health clinic that offers counseling to children, adolescents, adults and families who’ve been affected by trauma), in addition to primary care and school-based mental health clinics. Services are provided by multidisciplinary, multilingual, culturally competent treatment teams composed of physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers and addiction counselors.

The Family Health Centers at NYU Langone was founded in 1967, and has grown to become one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Center networks in the nation. We are home to the largest dental residency program in the country, the largest school health program in New York, and with more than 100,000 patients, our network handles 600,000 doctor’s visits each year. Within the Ambulatory Behavioral Health Service line our team of physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, and mental health counselors helps restore, maintain, and enhance the wellbeing of adults, adolescents, and children who have mental health disorders. We provide individual, group, and family therapy, including therapy for children and adolescents and geriatric treatment for older adults. Psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychological testing and case management are also available.

The Medical Director of Ambulatory Behavioral Health Services is responsible for the supervision and direction of the delivery of clinical services by all licensed and credentialed behavioral health providers and any health professions students and trainees assigned. As well as assuring that all clinical services are provided in accordance with established Family Health Centers at NYU Langone clinical standards for preventive, diagnostic and treatment services in accordance with the NYS Office of Mental Health Article 31 regulations. 

Qualifications:

-       Doctorate Degree in Medicine (MD or DO) with Board Certification in Psychiatry.

-       At least five years of clinical practice in mental health with increasing leadership responsibilities. 

-       Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) software. 

-       Experience managing an outpatient mental health treatment facility is desirable.

-       Familiarity with medical care delivery systems and experience with utilization management, quality improvement, and peer review. 

-       Knowledge, experience and demonstrated success in medical/clinical management operations in a managed care environment is preferred.
