Open Door Family Medical Centers, WIC Program is seeking a motivated team player with excellent customer skills to serve as a WIC Registered Dietitian. The WIC Registered Dietitian will be located in Ossining, New York and report to the WIC Director. This position encompasses coordination of individual and group nutrition counseling and various outreach services sponsored by the Open Door and the WIC Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for conducting nutritional assessments including anthropometry, hematology, dietary, medical and health necessary for the WIC certification process.
  • Provides nutrition education and diet counseling to WIC participants, groups and individuals. 
  • Performs individual participant centered nutrition assessments and facilitates participant centered group discussions, making necessary referrals for all program participants.
  • Tailors and assigns food instruments according to individual nutrition assessment, and medical needs. 
  • Coordinates and cooperates with teams and other health care professionals to develop appropriate individualized nutrition care plans for at-risk, non-high risk and high-risk participants.
  • Assists in the development of the Nutrition Education component of the program.
  • Assists with development and implementation of statewide and local agency goals and initiatives for the nutrition program.
  • Develop, promote, implement and measure outcomes associated with nutrition and nutrition related programs, including and not limited to: high risk care education programs, nutrition education programs and services for prenatal women, infants and children at risk for allergies, intolerances and, or special dietary needs. 
  • Provides clients with referrals to community services including, but not limited to early childhood development, mental health, substance abuse programs, social services and food pantries.
  • Implements prenatal smoking cessation and substance abuse action plans. Responsible for documentation of nutrition services.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as defined by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Open Door Family Medical Center.Participates in other tasks related to nutrition education on an as-needed basis.
  • Assists in the development of nutrition education tools.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered Dietitian preferred, and or RD eligible 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical or Human Nutrition, Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or Public Health Nutrition from a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices.
  • One year experience in community nutrition strongly preferred. Experience with limited resource population and culturally diverse population. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Strong customer relations/services skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Cultural sensitivity
