Position Description:

Open Door Family Medical Centers has been serving low-income, under-served residents and those lacking access to health care in the communities of Westchester and Putnam counties for more than 40 years, providing high quality primary health care and human services at affordable prices. Open Door’s nationally renowned Community Health Center sites, mobile dentistry units, school-based health programs, and its family practice residency training program, deliver exceptional value to both patients and the communities it serves, dedicated to engaging men, women and children in healthier lifestyles and creating healthier communities. 


This year, Open Door will be the medical home for more than 57,000 patients, providing more than 300,000 visits. Our family medical services include primary medical care, dentistry, mental health, optometry, podiatry, and women’s health in Ossining, Sleepy Hollow, Port Chester, Mamaroneck, Mount Kisco, Brewster, and Saugerties NY.

The Wellness Programs Manager will promote, implement and measure comprehensive employee and patient wellness programs, including but not limited to the group exercise program, health fairs, wellness events and programs, coaching and lifestyle programs, food distribution programs, and AmeriCorps program. Will work closely with the Director of Wellness Initiatives to evaluate the ongoing needs of patients and employees. Collaborates with wellness programs staff and AmeriCorps members to ensure programs have a positive impact on health outcomes.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Guides the wellness team in planning, organizing and coordinating group exercise, food, and wellness programs.
  • Responsible for daily operations of on-site and off-site wellness programs.
  • Helps develop and promote regular program schedules to provide creative and value-added classes, programs, and activities for patients and/or staff.
  • Maintains records, documentation and reports for all wellness programs and classes.
  • Monitors effectiveness of the department's programs.
  • Ensures the wellness centers policies are adhered to and waivers are completed by all staff members participating in the wellness program.
  • Supervises the AmeriCorps members to extend services of wellness programs.
  • Oversees planning, implementation and communication of staff wellness events and programming, via company intranet and internal postings.
  • Prepares and maintains records and database support data for wellness program and grant metrics purposes.
  • Communicates and coordinates with partner organizations to promote, sustain, and expand wellness resources for patients and staff. (i.e. other non-profits such as YMCA, as well as for profit partnerships such as fitness centers, local restaurants/grocery stores, etc.)
  • Identifies and develops revenue producing programs and recommends procedures to minimize expenses.
  • Participates in meetings and workshops to convey or gather information required to sustain and improve wellness programs.
  • Ensures safety of participants and facility property.

 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Occasional travel may be required for training sessions, continuing education opportunities, emergency situations, and other company functions.
  • Responsible to complete all mandatory annual trainings as deemed necessary by Open Door.
  • Remains in proper attire at all times and maintain a high standard of appearance.
  • Maintains current certifications and acquire new certifications as opportunities arise through professional improvement workshops and conferences focused on current affairs in wellness, exercise, health sciences.
  • Maintains HIPAA standards and regard all medical or healthcare information pertaining to patients and employees as confidential.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Wellness Initiatives.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, or other clinical area is strongly preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience working in an employee wellness/health promotion environment.
  • Must possess the ability to move from concept to implementation, have demonstrated program management experience and have strong data collection and analysis skills.
  • Strong skills in fostering good employee relations, including the ability to effectively manage conflict and work with staff and physicians at all levels, as well as external vendors and community partners;
  • Must be an independent thinker who can also work effectively as part of several teams in a high-matrix organization.
  • Must possess knowledge of and ability to use computers with Windows-based business software applications. For example: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; Skills in oral and written communication, including the ability to draft, proof and construct professional documents and correspondence;
  • Effective organizational skills and attention to detail including the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at the same time and adaptability to changing priorities to meet demands of business;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to independently research best practices and make effective recommendations using creativity and critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to function independently and as a team member.
  • Positive attitude and caring demeanor a must.

 Working conditions

  • Frequent contact with patients, employees and outside agencies.
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a health center environment.
  • Requires adherence to Infection Control Standard Precautions.

 Physical requirements

  • Approximately 50% walking/standing and 50% sitting.
