Position Description:

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Examines patients teeth and supporting structures, and develops appropriate treatment plans.
  • Maintains current and accurate problem-oriented dental records, either paper or electronic.
  • Treats diseases, injuries and malfunctions of oral structures.
  • Determines need for, and causes fabrication of dental prostheses.
  • Advises patients concerning oral health and preventive activities.
  • Consults with the Dental Director, on matters pertaining to Center’s oral health services.
  • Participates in departmental and Center meetings as needed.
  • Interacts with other medical specialties and departments as needed
  • Participates in Departments outreach or educational programs as needed.
  • Helps to resolve patient care issues or patient concerns as they arise.
  • Represents dental department in meetings and committees as needed or assigned
  • Takes part in Performance Improvement activities as needed/assigned.
  • Coordinates maintenance, repair and service of dental equipment
  • With the Dental Director, and Unit Manager, helps to evaluate front line staff
  • Follows all safety/infection control guidelines of MHHC/OSHA/NYS/NYC/JC or other regulatory bodies
  • Performs other department-related tasks as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

1.

EDUCATION:

Graduate of accredited Dental School with DDS or DMD degree. GPR or AEGD completion preferred.

EXPERIENCE

At least one year post residency experience preferred. Other prior experience beyond one year is valuable. Prior CHC experience a plus.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

 

Must be able to interact positively with supervised staff, other providers, other MHHC staff and patients. Must show ability to manage patient or staff issues/conflicts efficiently.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret instructions in written, verbal, diagram or electronic form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

 

 

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

 

Ability to read and interpret scientific literature, financial reports and legal documents. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, equipment instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write correspondence and reports. Must be able to present material to groups clearly.

 

Must have high level computer skills in order to use dental patient management system, operate email system, operate electronic dental record and complete other duties through use of computer.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, decimals and fractions. Ability to computes ratios, percents and interpret data from graphs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel, grasp and carry objects, reach with arms and talk/hear. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or balance. Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid, current New York State license in Dentistry required.
