Statement from Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS) President and CEO Rose Duhan on Trump Administration’s Plans for Medicaid Program
CHCANYS is committed to working side by side with New York State to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to high-quality health care through insurance coverage, and we wholeheartedly support the State’s decision to maximize coverage through the New York State of Health Marketplace and an expanded Medicaid program. Community health centers have been at the forefront of providing high-quality primary and preventive health care services to medically-underserved populations for over 50 years. More than half of the 2.2 million patients served annually by New York‘s community health centers are enrolled in Medicaid, a number that continues to grow. In contrast, the Trump Administration has taken a step backwards by announcing that it will encourage states to impose work requirements on Medicaid enrollees in an attempt to cut program costs. This draconian move will have a drastically adverse impact on the health of many of the patients currently enrolled in the program and ultimately, reduce access to care for all New Yorkers.
