This week, community health centers across New York State are celebrating National Health Center Week. Each year during National Health Center Week, we take time to underscore the value of the FQHC comprehensive care model and the amazing work that community health centers do every day to serve those most in need throughout the state.
Health centers will be hosting a variety of activities throughout the week to spread the word about all the different ways they help to transform the health of their communities. Members of Congress, State Senators, Assemblymembers, and local policymakers will participate in health center site visits, awards ceremonies, health fairs and screenings, and other activities designed to celebrate the success of the community health center program. In addition, particular days have been designated to highlight some of the specialized services offered by community health centers:
Public Housing Health Center Day - Tuesday, August 12
Health Care for the Homeless Day - Wednesday, August 13
Farmworker Health Day - Thursday, August 14
This is a critical and definitive time in New York, as efforts to transform the health care delivery system are reaching their peak. Community health centers have been and will remain at the forefront of this transformation, including working collaboratively with other providers to create high-performing health systems throughout the state that are built upon a strong foundation of primary care. We invite you to join us in this weeklong celebration designed to focus the public spotlight on these and other efforts and help to ensure that everyone who needs a health care home can have one at a health center.
