CHCANYS visited community health centers across the state to celebrate National Health Center Week, an annual celebration that promotes awareness of the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers over the past five decades.
This year, National Health Center Week honored our “health care heroes” – health center providers and staff on the front lines providing quality health care to their communities.
Serving 2.3 million New Yorkers at nearly 800 sites statewide, New York State’s 70 CHCs form an extensive primary care network that is central to the health care safety net. New York’s health centers are part of a nationwide network that serves more than 27 million Americans. According to the National Association of Community Health Centers, CHCs nationwide have compiled a significant record of success that includes:
Producing $24 billion in annual health system savings;
Reducing unnecessary hospitalizations and unnecessary visits to the emergency room;
Treating patients for a fraction of the average cost of one emergency room visit;
Maintaining patient satisfaction levels of nearly 100 percent;
Serving more than one in six Medicaid beneficiaries for less than two percent of the national Medicaid budget;
Lowering the cost of children’s primary care by approximately 35 percent
