CHCANYS is proud to announce today’s launch of Expanding Sustainable Community Health Centers in New York City, an analysis identifying NYC neighborhoods with the greatest need for expanded access to primary care and the ability to support sustainable growth of FQHCs. Building upon the statewide expansion plan developed by CHCANYS in 2013, the report uses a quantitative analysis of communities’ relative need for additional FQHC capacity and the feasibility of such expansions. Using the most recent data available, CHCANYS has ranked 42 United Hospital Fund NYC neighborhoods after analyzing measures that quantify unmet need for primary care and the ability to support the sustainable growth of FQHCs, identifying 16 neighborhoods as falling into Tier One, the category of highest priority for expansion.
Authored with financial support from the Office of the Mayor of New York City, the report informed development of the Caring Neighborhoods initiative, a new program announced today that will significantly increase primary care access in underserved areas across the City’s five boroughs. Two Caring Neighborhoods RFPs were released yesterday by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), which is administering the program.
