On September 12, 2014, U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Matthews Burwell announced $295 million in Affordable Care Act funding to increase access to primary care services at 1,195 health centers across the country. These awards will enable health centers to hire new staff, remain open for longer hours, and expand the range care they provide to include oral health, behavioral health, pharmacy, and vision services. Fifty-eight New York health centers received over $15.5 million of these funds, which are projected to support 257 new FTEs and 82,119 new patients.
