The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has announced that two key officials, Commissioner Nirav Shah and Karen Westervelt, will soon be departing.
Commissioner Shah has accepted an executive position with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in California and will leave the Department in early May. He will be succeeded by Dr. Howard Zucker, who was appointed last year as First Deputy Commissioner.
Also leaving in May is Karen Westervelt, Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Health Systems Management, who will return to William F. Ryan Health Network in the wake Barbra Minch’s retirement as its new President & Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Westervelt’s replacement has not yet been announced.
