The results are in – New York ranked second in the nation on the national “Fix the Cliff” petition drive, securing over 5,400 signatures during the month of October and helping to send a strong message to President Obama and Congress that the time to address the funding cuts threatening the Health Centers Program is NOW!
Although our national goal for the month was far surpassed, we can’t stop now! If the funding cliff is not addressed, the Health Center Fund will be cut by 70% - a reduction that will have serious consequences, including site closures, staff layoffs, and a drastic reduction in services. Please continue to circulate hard copies of the petition among your colleagues, staff, patients, friends, and family, and collect as many signatures as possible. The online petition remains active as well.
This petition drive is just the first of several important calls to action headed our way in the coming weeks, and it is critical for New York advocates to maintain the momentum we have built and respond forcefully to each and every one of them! The future of the Health Centers Program depends upon the strength of our commitment and our willingness to respond quickly when needed.
