CHCANYS Technical Assistance & Support Requesting a CHCANYS Letter of Support for Your Grant Project
To help us respond in a timely manner to the many requests we receive from health centers for our support of their applications for New Access Point funding, section 330 funding, and other grants, CHCANYS has developed a new Policy Regarding Requests for Letters of Support as well as a standardized Letter of Support Request Form, both of which are available on our website here. If you would like to request a letter of support from CHCANYS for your grant project, please read the policy and complete the request form at least 14 days in advance of your application due date. In addition to completing the form, you will be asked to provide some supporting documentation to help us understand your project better. All requests for letters of support are subject to review by CHCANYS staff.

News from Health Center Support Webinar: Tips for Creating a Successful Emergency Management Plan Thursday, November 4th from 2 pm to 3 pm. This webinar will focus on HRSA’s emergency preparedness expectations for New Access Point applicants. Due to the highly competitive nature of this year’s New Access Point application process, emergency preparedness activities may be the difference between having a good application and having a great one.
CHCANYS’ Emergency Preparedness Program Manager, Matthew Ziemer, will present on major emergency preparedness activities that are expected from a strong application and how your health center can meet these expectations. Mollie Melbourne, Director of Emergency Management from the National Association of Community Health Centers, will provide guidance on how organizations with different designations can focus their emergency preparedness efforts (i.e. existing FQHCs, Look-Alikes, organizations seeking FQHC or Look-Alike status).
HRSA Announcement: Availability of Expanded Services Funding for Existing Health Centers under the Affordable Care Act HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced the availability of up to $335 million for existing community health centers across the country under the Expanded Services (ES) initiative. HRSA Releases Program Assistance Letter (PAL) 10-13 HIV Testing in Health Care Settings The purpose of this Program Assistance Letter (PAL) is to provide grantees information regarding the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) “Revised Recommendations for HIV Testing of Adults, Adolescents, and Pregnant Women in Health-Care Settings.” The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Bureau of Primary Health Care continue to support reducing the number of people who become infected with HIV, increasing access to care and optimizing health outcomes for people living with HIV, and reducing HIV-related health disparities. This PAL also identifies resources for training and technical assistance to help Health Centers follow the Revised Recommendations. Click here for information.

National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP): If you are interested in starting a campaign, then be sure to look at the NDEP link that is promoting organizations to become involved and providing them with material to get them started! You will find resources galore!

Event description: In recognition of American Diabetes Month, please join us for a webinar with Ann Albright, Ph.D., R.D., Director of the Division of Diabetes Translation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Albright is known for her work in implementing evidence-based diabetes care and prevention guidelines, developing models of care in community clinics, and developing campaigns to increase the understanding of diabetes and the importance of blood glucose, blood pressure, and lipid control.
The New York State Health Foundation is committed to reversing the diabetes epidemic by improving clinical care; mobilizing communities to identify, prevent, and manage diabetes; and promoting policies to sustain a comprehensive, coordinated care system for patients with diabetes.
NYS DOH Adult Hepatitis Vaccination Program All Federally Qualified Health Centers in NYS (except New York City) are eligible to enroll in the New York State Department of Health’s Adult Hepatitis Vaccination Program. Under this program, participating health care providers receive single antigen hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines or a combination hepatitis A and B vaccine at no cost. This program’s target population is individuals over the age of 18 years without health insurance coverage and high-risk adolescents and adults (i.e., MSM, IDUs, HIV+, etc.). There is a “Hepatitis A and B Vaccination Curriculum” available through the NYS DOH, which can be used to train staff about vaccination procedures and/or it may be used as a resource to assist with development of vaccination policies and procedures.

Call For Applications: The RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellows (ENF) program is a three-year advanced leadership program for nurses who aspire to lead and shape health care locally and nationally. Fellows strengthen their leadership capacity and improve their abilities to lead teams and organizations in improving health and health care. Your Action Needed Regarding Meaningful Use EHR Incentive Payments The Final Rule for the Meaningful Use EHR Incentive Payments requires payment to be made to the individual health center clinician, not the health center entity. This is despite the fact that health centers acquire and maintain HIT at the organizational level, and individual providers do not bear the costs of these investments. CHCANYS and NACHC strongly opposed this provision in comments submitted to the federal government prior to finalization of the Rule. NACHC has initiated a legislative strategy to urge Congress to allow payment of the EHR Incentives directly to FQHC entities.
After Congress returns from Recess, things could move quickly on this issue. Here is what you can do to prepare:
