We're looking for health centers to go into their waiting rooms and do quick interviews with their patients about how important or how essential their community health center is to them. We're looking for short quotes and quips to put together a 3-4 minute video that will be available to be shown at the New York City NHCW Breakfast. It will also be posted on the CHCANYS NHCW website so you can download it and show it at your event as well. We'll also send it off to NACHC for their Video Contest.
Since video files are usually pretty big, please upload your file to the following FTP site: ftp://mail.commservices.net Cut and paste this link into your web browser. Username: visitor Password: George (case sensitive). Open the Uploads folder and place your clips in the NHCW Video Clips folder.

Affordable Care Act School-Based Health Centers Capital Program Grant Announcement. HHS Launches New Website for Consumers The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recently unveiled www.HealthCare.gov, an online tool that will help consumers find information and resources to access quality, affordable health care coverage. Set in motion by the Affordable Care Act, the site provides consumers with both public and private health coverage options tailored specifically for their needs in a single, easy-to-use tool. New Issue of Free Publication for Health Center Boards Available The current issue of Across the Board, a free publication for health centers and their board members, is available for download at no charge by clicking here! Across the Board, and its Spanish version, Desde La JuntaDirectiva, are bulletins to assist, educate, encourage, and communicate with volunteer board members of primary health care programs. The current issue focuses on leading in tough times and developing resilience. For new board members seeking to learn more about board topics, or for boards seeking resource materials for board development, most past issues of Across the Board are available for download from the Across the Board website. All downloads of Across the Board are free, and may be reproduced for health center use.
Capital Link Offers Free Guide on Capital Project Financing Selecting the Right Capital Project Financing, A Guide for Health Center Staff and Boards, prepared by Capital Link, gives health centers the information needed to determine available financing options for capital projects. It contains a primer on health center capital financing, including how to estimate debt capacity, and details on specific sources for equity, debt, and credit enhancement. It also provides a discussion on the factors that influence health center financing. HRSA supported development of the guide. This publication is the latest in a comprehensive collection of resource materials Capital Link has prepared to assist health centers and primary care associations with accomplishing specific tasks related to the capital development process. CMS Working to Streamline Provider Enrollment Process The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is working with providers to address concerns about enrollment in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries continue to receive the health care services and items they need. PECOS is the electronic system used to enroll physicians and eligible professionals into the Medicare program. As part of those efforts, CMS will, for the time being, not implement changes that would automatically reject claims based on orders, certifications, and referrals made by providers that have not yet had their applications approved by July 6, 2010. While more than 800,000 physicians and other health professionals have enrolled and have approved applications in the PECOS system, some providers have encountered problems.

Plant a Seed for Healthy Vision in Your Community NEI is pleased to announce the 2011 cycle of the Health Vision Community Awards (HVCA) program which provides up to $10,000 in seed money to nonprofit and community-based organizations to support grassroots eye health education efforts. Proposed projects must focus on eye health education, be innovative, have the potential for sustainability once funding ends and address one or more of the following topics: Age-related Macular Degeneration; Diabetic Eye Disease; Glaucoma; Occupational Eye Safety or Vision Rehabilitation. NYC Health Centers are Invited to Join our PCMH/MU Collaborative PCDC and CHCANYS invite you to learn about a new six-month Patient Centered Medical Home/Meaningful Use (PCMH/MU) Collaborative focused on the unique needs and concerns of local NYC community health centers. The Collaborative includes a program of technical assistance and collaboration designed to help health centers interested in developing their PCMH and MU plans and in reaching their PCMH and MU goals.
A full-day informational session will be held on July 21st at Baruch College (located at 151 East 25th Street, New York, NY, 10010) to outline in detail the requirements of Patient Centered Medical Home and Meaningful Use and develop a common understanding of how these important initiatives impact your practice in terms of risk and reward. During this session, we will provide more information, including the costs and benefits of Collaborative participation, to help your health center decide if the PCDC-CHCANYS PCMH/MU Collaborative opportunity is right for you.

HEAL 17 Grant Opportunity Now Available. Applications are due August 9, 2010 from eligible applicants to fund projects that improve the coordination and management of care through a Patient Centered Medical Home model that emphasizes improved management and coordination of care by including mental health, long term care, and home health care providers supported by the implementation and effective use of interoperable health information infrastructure. Final Meaningful Use Rule Announced. The US Department of Health & Human Services announced release of the final rule on meaningful use today. Click here for the final rule. In summary, the criteria have been softened and providers have some choice in selecting criteria. CHCANYS will provide further information once we have read the final rule.
