CHCANYS Updates--NEW CHCANYS Monthly Clinical Call Open to All Interested Health Center Representatives
CHCANYS would like to invite all CHCANYS constituents who are interested to participate in CHCANYS' monthly clinical calls. We would especially like to extend this information to all clinical professions. The calls occur every 3rd Friday of each month from 9:00am to 10:30am. NCQA Diabetes Physician Recognition Program-Revised
The NYS Diabetes Campaign, sponsored by the New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth) in partnership with the Institute for Family Health, is an initiative designed to reverse the diabetes epidemic in New York State by improving clinical care, mobilizing communities, and promoting policy. The NCQA Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP) is a voluntary program for physicians and practices to receive recognition for quality diabetes care. The program provides recognized physicians with valuable information about their patients and their practice; and, receives internal/external validation of your practice's hard work and dedication.

DOHMH Dental Clinics and Equipment
NYC DOHMH has proposed transition and/or closure of its Child Dental Clinics. As such, DOHMH is accepting requests from providers interested in receiving dental equipment to expand/or upgrade dental services in their community sites and in school based health center sites. NYCDOHMH is also welcoming inquires about NYC DOHMH's school dental sites.
Providers will need to submit an equipment inventory list, pay a nominal processing fee under mutual aid request for the acquisition ($250) and sign a MOU with DOHMH. Oral Health Promotion and Education Day
On Monday, May 11, oral health providers and supporters will meet with legislators and provide them with information about the importance of oral health to good overall health. You can join us. Click here for information on how to educate policymakers and to register for the event.
NYS Health Center Leader named to national HIT Policy Committee
Dr. Neil Calman,President and CEO, of The Institute for Family Health, Inc. in NY, NY was named by the Acting Comptroller General of the United States to the prestigious HIT Policy Committee. NACHC supported Dr. Calman's appointment as an Expert in Improving the Health of Vulnerable Populations. To read more, click here.

Stimulus Funding: Accountability and Reporting Requirements NACHC is offering a webinar that explores the basis for increased scrutiny and the general mechanisms put in place at the federal level to oversee the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the Stimulus). "Red Flag" Deadline Looms
NACHC has issued a new Issue Brief intended to assist health centers in developing and implementing an Identity Theft Prevention Program compliant with the Federal Trade Commission's "Red Flag" rules. The Identity Theft Prevention Program must be approved by the health center's Board of Directors and be in place by May 1, 2009. To view this new Issue Brief, click here.
Implementation Dates for ICD-10 Transition Set
The Department of Health and Human Services issued final rules on the standards of governing electronic transactions and the transition to the ICD-10 coding set on January 15, 2009. These final rules outlined compliance dates for both of these transitions: January 1, 2012 for transaction standards and October 1, 2013 for the ICD-10 code set. NACHC commented on the proposed rule and encouraged the Administration to extend the compliance dates, which is reflected in the final rule.
The final rules were issued under the Bush Administration and the Obama Administration reviewed the regulations and recently decided that these compliance dates are appropriate. Health centers should begin to review the standards and the ICD-10 coding system and make appropriate plans to meet the compliance dates. For more information, click here.
GRANT OPPORTUNITIES--NEW Heal 10 Grant Applications Now Available New York State released the long-awaited RGA for HEAL 10 last week. To view the RGA , click here.
HEAL 10 provides funding to implement EHRs, and requires projects to use Health IT to develop a patient centered medical home with health information exchange and quality reporting around a specific chronic disease or high risk/high cost diagnosis. HEAL 10 is an opportunity to progress towards "meaningful use", a requirement for the provider incentives in the Stimulus Legislation.
If you are interested in participating in a HEAL 10 application, one strategy to consider is to approach a RHIO or existing CHITA in your region to see if they would be interested in including your center as a partner. SAMHSA Announces Grant Opportunity linking community mental health centers with CHCs
SAMHSA has a grant program available for integrating primary and behavioral care for individuals with serious mental illness. The population of focus for this grant program is individuals with serious mental illness served in the public mental health system. This is a partnership opportunity for health centers to link with community mental health centers to provide a health home for individuals with serious mental illness. UPCOMING MEETINGS AND TRAININGS-NEW Educational Sessions now available through HEAL 5 Grant
As you know, CHCANYS is participating in the NY State HEAL 5 grant through a project involving 9 of our member organizations operating in Brooklyn. As part of the HEAL 5 program, a series of educational sessions has been developed on Health IT planning, implementation and post-implementation support. The eighth and final training session of the series will be held via web meeting on Monday, April 20. To register, click here.
While the series evolved out of the HEAL 5 process, these educational sessions will have relevance for any organization undertaking an EHR implementation. You are encouraged to register someone from your organization. Space is limited, so if multiple co-workers would like to participate, we request that they view the webinar from a single location using one sign-on.
