National Health Center Week is Only Four Weeks Away!
National Health Center Week 2016 (August 7-13) is only 4 weeks away – what are your plans? Each August, we recognize National Health Center Week (NHCW) in an effort to enhance the visibility of community, migrant, homeless, and public housing health centers and build support for the Health Center Program. Health centers across the country open their doors to state and federal elected officials and the public in order to showcase the numerous services they provide... and to celebrate! While there are countless reasons to honor health centers, among the most important is their success in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people for over 50 years. We hope that you will consider hosting an event during National Health Center Week this summer and invite your elected officials, business partners, patients, and community members to participate. CHCANYS has developed a special NHCW 2016 web page featuring a wealth of tools and resources to assist you in your planning - please check back often, as we will be updating it frequently. Remember to let CHCANYS know about your events by filling out an event form – we will add it to our online listing of NHCW celebrations taking place across the state this August.

Pro Bono Physician Search by Merritt Hawkins: Applications Due August 10

Hosted by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), this space-limited Virtual Job Fair will connect interested individuals with prospective employers from National Health Service Corps and NURSE Corps sites. The Cost of Residency Training in Teaching Health Centers  
Last week, the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) published the results of the George Washington University study on the cost of residency training in Teaching Health Centers. According to the report, the average cost to train a Teaching Health Center resident is estimated to be $157,602 per year - higher than the initial $150,000-per-resident amount initially provided to THCs when the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program was first implemented and substantially higher than the current $95,000-per-resident amount made available under the funding extension of the THCGME program in the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). CHCANYS/Latman Family Day at the Races: September 24, 2016 
This year’s CHCANYS/Latman Family Day at the Races will take place on Saturday, September 24 at the beautiful Belmont Park Racetrack.  Scott Fein of BioReference Laboratories and Lynn Sherman of Charles B. Wang Community Health Center are this year’s honorees. This fun-filled family event will feature a BBQ lunch, activities and entertainment for children of all ages, raffles, a silent auction, and more! The Final Rule On The FLSA White-Collar Overtime Regulations: What Employers Need To Know Now 
Date: July 19, 2016

This webinar, hosted by Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell and presented by Stacy Mueller of Constangy, Brooks, Smith and Prophete, LLP, will review the U.S. Dept. of Labor's newly adapted Final Rule on white-collar exemptions to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which will take effect on December 1 and is expected to have a significant impact on many employers.  Specific topics to be addressed include: new salary threshold for exempt status; new compensation level for highly compensated employees; review of the duties test (which will remain unchanged); special guidance for non-profit employers; and reclassification considerations and options going forward.

Beat the Heat - Stay Cool! Stay Hydrated! Stay Informed! 
During the summer months, all New Yorkers are vulnerable to hot weather hazards. Those residing in New York City, where temperatures can be as much as ten degrees warmer than in surrounding areas, are particularly vulnerable. When you must be outdoors in hot weather, take steps to stay cool and healthy. Cut down on exercise and other hard tasks. Drink two to four glasses of cool, non-alcoholic fluids every hour. Rest often in shady areas. Wear light clothing and protect yourself from the sun with a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher).
