Department of Health Releases Temporary Rate Adjustment RFA The Department of Health (DOH) has “re-opened” a Request for Applications (RFA) for Medicaid Temporary Rate Adjustments via the HEAL 21 allocation. DOH has approximately $61 million still available. This opportunity is open to all Diagnostic & Treatment Centers (D&TCs) that meet the eligibility requirements; click here to view them. Applications must be for either new initiatives or previously submitted unfunded applications that have been strengthened. DOH to Host Forum on the Role of Private Equity On Tuesday, October 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Department of Health will facilitate a forum on "Improving Capital Access to Health Care Providers in New York State." Dr. John Rugge (CEO, Hudson Headwaters Health Network), Elizabeth Swain (President and CEO, CHCANYS), Ronda Kotelchuck (CEO, Primary Care Development Corporation) and others will participate in discussions on the current health care environment and how the infusion of private equity investments might help and/or hinder New York’s health care landscape. NACHC Offers Documents to Assist Governing Boards Governing Board Responsibilities and How to Do Them is a series of documents that examines nine governance requirements of the Health Center Program. Each document addresses a particular requirement and describes what board members can do to achieve their oversight responsibilities, including information for the board to receive (usually from staff) and review, questions for the board to ask, and the significance of particular answers on health center operations and viability. HRSA Health Center Site Visit Guide Now Available Online The Health Center Site Visit Guide is a review instrument used by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to assess an organization’s compliance with key section 330 Health Center Program requirements as well as a resource to assist grantees in identifying areas for performance or operational improvements. Health centers may also use this guide as a self assessment resource, as it provides a series of prompting questions for both program requirements and performance improvement. This new video details personal anecdotes and results from the 2009 Health Center Patient Survey that showcases the impact of the Health Center Program. HRSA to Sponsor TA Call on HIV Testing The HRSA Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) invites you to join a multi-disciplinary panel of Federal staff and BPHC Health Center grantees for an upcoming Grantee Enrichment Technical Assistance Call entitled, “Promising Practices for Putting the ‘Routine’ into HIV Testing at Health Centers” on Tuesday, October 11 from 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET. The learning objectives for this call include:
Increase understanding of Routine HIV Testing Guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Highlight promising approaches to implementing HIV testing programs in health centers.
Identify technical assistance and other resources to support implementation and improvement of HIV testing programs.

State Funds for LGBT Care Available The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute announces a Request for Applications for Health and Human Services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Individuals, Families and Communities to support provision and/or coordination of care.
FDA Approved the Use of Truvada On July 16, 2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Truvada® - a fixed dose combination of emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate - as a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV-negative individuals who are at high risk of acquiring HIV. As part of PrEP, HIV-uninfected individuals who are at high risk will need to take Truvada daily to lower their chances of becoming infected should they be exposed to the virus. NY State's Health Information Exchange - The SHINY: Current Status and Future Development

A great deal of progress has been made by the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) towards the development of the Statewide Health Information Network - NY (SHINY) and bringing down the costs of connecting to and receiving services from this statewide health information exchange.

American Psychological Foundation Invites Clinicians to Apply for Pearson Early Career Grant The American Psychological Foundation's Pearson Early Career Grant is designed to encourage early career clinicians to work in an area of critical societal need. The program's goals are to support psychology's efforts to improve areas of critical need in society, including but not limited to: innovative scientifically-based clinical work on serious mental illness; serious emotional disturbance; incarcerated or homeless individuals; children with serious emotional disturbance; and adults with serious mental illness, and to encourage early career psychologists to devote their careers to underserved populations.
Applicants should be psychologists with an Ed.D., Psy.D., or Ph.D. from an accredited university and be no more than seven years postdoctoral.
One grant of $12,000 will be awarded. The recipient may use grant monies for direct administrative costs of his or her proposed project. An additional $1,500 will be awarded for travel costs for the recipient to attend the following year's American Psychological Association Convention.
