DOH to Launch VBP Regional Bootcamp Learning Series 
Beginning in June 2016, the NYS Dept. of Health (DOH) will launch a Value-Based Payment (VBP) Regional Bootcamp Learning Series in an effort to ensure a successful transition to VBP implementation. Geared toward all parties planning to implement Medicaid payment reform but designed specifically for those with little to no experience in executing value-based contracts, the bootcamp series is open to the public free of charge and will take the form of three all-day sessions in each region. Medicaid Matters Survey: Engagement of Community-Based Organizations in DSRIP  
Medicaid Matters New York (MMNY), the statewide coalition that advocates on the interests of Medicaid beneficiaries, is conducting a survey to assess the degree to which Community-Based Organizations (CBO) are engaged in DSRIP. Community-based entities of any type, in any part of New York State, are encouraged to complete the survey. The results will be used to help MMNY assess what the needs are around the state for advancing community interests in local DSRIP regions. It will also allow MMNY to conduct state-level advocacy to ensure that the DSRIP process engages CBOs in ways that recognize their strengths and address barriers to their participation. To access the survey, click here.

Community Based Organization (CBO) Planning Grant
The NYS Dept. of Health (DOH), Office of Health Insurance Programs recently announced the availability of funds to support strategic planning activities to facilitate the engagement of Community Based Organizations (CBO) in DSRIP activities. It is DOH’s intent to distribute a maximum award of $2,500,000 to one CBO Consortium from each of the three following regions: New York City, Long Island and Mid-Hudson, and Rest of State. To be eligible for this opportunity, an applicant must be a non-Medicaid billing health organization authorized to apply on behalf of a consortium of public or private not-for-profit (501(c)3) CBOs, located in and conducting business in high need areas of New  York State. CHCANYS Offers New Access Point Supports 
On April 19, 2016, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced that approximately $50 million will be made available in FY 2017 for 75 awards to new and existing health centers nationwide for operational support of new primary care service delivery sites. Applications are due in Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. ET on June 17 and in HRSA’s Electronic Handbook (EHB) by 5:00 p.m. ET on July 15. Water Fluoridation Equipment: Round 2 Grants Now Available
The NYS Dept. of Health has released a second round of funding opportunities to support counties, cities, towns, or villages (municipalities) that own their public water systems for costs related to the construction, installation, repair, replacement, or upgrade of fluoride equipment in drinking water facilities. Both opportunities are now posted on the NYS Grants Gateway. The first opportunity supports municipalities with funding up to $50,000 for the planning and implementation of community water fluoridation.

CDC-Sponsored Infection Control Assessments Available for NYC Health Centers
The Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) program is a national quality initiative developed and funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that supports state and local health departments in building infection prevention and control capacity in their jurisdictions. Through the program, the NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) will be working with healthcare facilities to complete a CDC-developed Guided Self-Assessment tool designed to identify strengths and potential gaps in their Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programs.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT NEWS

HRSA Funding Opportunity: Improving Access to Care Using Community Health Workers to Improve Linkage and Retention in HIV Care 

The goal of this three-year cooperative agreement is to increase the utilization of community health workers (CHW) to improve access to and retention in health care; and to improve health outcomes for people living with HIV (PLWH) by strengthening the health care workforce, building healthier communities, and achieving health equity among racial and ethnic minority populations.  The project will focus on assisting HIV medical care provider sites, particularly those funded by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP), with the support needed to integrate CHWs into an HIV multidisciplinary team model through training, direct technical assistance, and collaborative learning sessions. Bureau of Health Workforce Releases Program Highlights 
The Bureau of Health Workforce recently released eleven Program Highlights that provide a snapshot of the accomplishments of Bureau programs for recent academic years. The highlights support the mission of the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis, which is to inform public and private sector workforce-related decision making through expanded and improved health workforce data, projections, and information.  To view the highlights, click here.

Genetics Home Reference is the National Library of Medicine website for consumer information about genetic conditions and the genes or chromosomes associated with those conditions. This year’s CHCANYS/Latman Family Day at the Races will take place on Saturday, September 24 at the beautiful Belmont Park Racetrack.  Scott Fein of BioReference Laboratories and Lynn Sherman of Charles B. Wang Community Health Center are this year’s honorees. This fun-filled family event will feature a BBQ lunch, activities and entertainment for children of all ages, raffles, a silent auction, and more! Proceeds will benefit CHCANYS and its mission to ensure high quality health care to anyone in need, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
