The SOGI Project The Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity Project at the University at Albany, School of Social Welfare "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Data Collection in Clinical Settings" March (2013) in New Yeork State will mark the fourth annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Health Month. The theme for New York State LGBT Health Month 2013 is "We Count. Count Us." Presentation Overview This presentation will highlight the rationale for and how to collect sexual orientation and gender identity data in clinical settings. Current data collection practices in most clinical settings do not include questions about sexual orientation or gender identity. The call for LGBT data collection in clinical settings is coming from national stakeholders including the Department of Health & Human Service and the Joint Commission, and has been highlighted in a report released by The Institute of Medicine in 2011 entitled, The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People: Building a Foundation for Better Understanding.
