CMS Emergency Preparedness Final Rule and Health Centers: Are You Prepared?

Hosted by: Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP (FTLF) and the Primary Care Emergency Preparedness Network (PCEPN)

This two-day, interactive and engaging workshop will provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the new CMS emergency preparedness rule that went into effect on November 16, 2016, its requirements, and how to successfully implement them in your health center.  Topics include:

  • Legal Requirements of Emergency Preparedness Program
  • Overview of the Elements of Your Emergency Preparedness Program
  • Hazard Vulnerability Analysis
  • Coalition Concepts, Community Integration and Communication
  • Risk Reduction in Emergency Response (FTCA, 330, HIPAA and Volunteer Considerations)
  • Program Evaluation
  • Emergency Preparedness Exercise Design & Evaluation

The new CME Emergency Preparedness Rule is far-reaching and requires providers to conduct annual risk assessments and develop emergency plans, along with policies and procedures to successfully execute these emergency plans while addressing risks identified during their most recent assessment phase.  Providers must also establish communications plans to communicate and coordinate patient care within and outside their facilities during an emergency and demonstrate ongoing training and testing of their emergency management programs, including conducting exercises. Medicare and Medicaid participating providers and suppliers, including health centers, must comply with these requirements by November 17, 2017.
